Miranda & Carroll
Luis de Miranda, PhD, is a philosophical counsellor since 2018. A practitioner as well as a researcher, he is a Senior Research Fellow at the Philosophy Department of Turku University and the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies, with affiliations at the Center for Wellbeing, Welfare and Happiness and the House of Innovation of the Stockholm School for Economics, as well as the Center for Research Ethics and Bioethics of Uppsala University, Sweden.
Since earning his PhD from the University of Edinburgh and graduating from the HEC-Paris School of Economics, Dr. de Miranda has established himself as an international author of both non-fiction and fiction, translated in various languages.
Dr. de Miranda is renowned for his pioneering work in philosophical health and existential creativity. His scholarly contributions include Being and Neonness (MIT Press) and Philosophical Health: a Practical Introduction (Bloomsbury), while 2024 saw the publication of two groundbreaking books on Philosophical Health with Bloomsbury Academic.

Jonathan Eric Carroll, DMin, is a philosophical practitioner and existential psychotherapist and has been in private practice for over a decade. He brings a unique interdisciplinary background to philosophical practice, combining extensive training in psychotherapy, counseling, philosophy, theology, and comparative religion. With a Doctor of Ministry from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, a Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, with postdoctoral study at The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family at Georgetown, Dr. Carroll's educational background provides a robust foundation for his philosophical work.
Dr. Carroll holds numerous professional certifications, including as a SMILE_PH Method Practitioner through Philosophical Health International, an APPA-Certified Affiliate Philosophical Practitioner, and as an ACPE Psychotherapist. His professional credentials are complemented by extensive experience in education, having served as faculty in doctoral programs at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and as an adjunct professor teaching philosophy, ethics, and comparative religion at multiple institutions.
His research area of interest includes the application of various philosophical traditions, alongside the SMILE_PH Method, and Bowen Family Systems Theory in the service of those persons who are living under palliative care and who are nearing death, in addition to their caregivers, and those loved ones who will grieve their deaths.
His collaborative research with Dr. de Miranda includes the academic article "The Philosophical Health Compass: A Novel Assessment Tool to Assist in Philosophical Counseling," which is forthcoming.
